Hello my Quarantine Queen,
What’s on the agenda for today?
8 am - Coffee
8:14 am - Instagram scrolling
8:45 am - More coffee
8:46 am - Facebook scrolling
10:30 am - Spy on the neighbors outside
10:32 am - Create background stories about said neighbors because I just moved here and people aren’t so keen on socializing right now
11:34 am - Contemplate downloading Twitter for a diverse scrolling experience
12 pm - Tea... because now jittery from coffee
12:30 pm - Here we are
Just a typical quarantine Sunday... If your days have been looking anything like mine, keep reading. If not, still keep reading.
If you tuned into my Quarantine Queen post, then you already know that I get an adrenaline high from being busy.
I know, total thrill seeker here...
So with that I’ve been thinking about what I can do to stay on track during this waiting period. What can I do to continue to build unshakeable self-esteem, in a weird scary time that challenges it to my core?
Up until this point, what’s been taking up most of your creative [and maybe not-so-creative] energy?
Chances are.. that answer lies somewhere in: work, social life, gym time
So, when faced with not being able to do ANY of those things (unless you are still working, in which case, bless you, you essential being) where’s your fulfillment coming from? If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably felt really lost in these last couple weeks with your daily routine being blown to smithereens.
Well, prepared to be found again, Quarantine Queen. It’s time for a re-focus on what OTHER areas of your life you can develop. Until retirement rolls around, this may be your last chance to go balls to the wall in discovering other areas of interest, without the stress of everyday life getting in the way.
Step 1: Write out a list of what you’ve been wanting to accomplish
Step 2: DO that list
Maybe you’ve had your eye on a couple of books that you’ve never had the time to read, well, hello there, new-found time. Perhaps you’ve been wanting to run a marathon, or maaaaaaybe start with a 10K, there are countless virtual running challenges online to get you started.
I’ve been dying to get into photography, like for real, and not just iPhone 10 style photography. I’m talking, giant black camera with strap around my next, taking pictures of nature, then uploading them into an editing software on the computer type of photography. Not because I necessarily think it’s better, I just want to.
On the flip side, you could be totally stoked with your iPhone camera and go on a portrait-mode-home-photoshoot rampage. Oh, and would you look at all of this new Instagram content you just so happened to create? (I also may have done that...)
I’ve mentioned this before, and I’ll say it again: Try out a totally new hobby. I learned to play cribbage three nights ago... CRIBBAGE. And you know what? I actually loved it... who would have thought.
Other hobby ideas: puzzles, cooking, baking bread, sewing, quilt-making, scrapbooking, gardening, interpretive dancing to Avril Lavigne’s new song: Head Above Water.
I could go on for eva...
You could create something magical during this time. A blog? A podcast? A painting or 7? A re-furnished dresser?
The sky is the limit and shelter-in-place has given you time. Use it wisely.
If you have any super cool ideas, feel free to share! It’s a wide open world out there with a plethora of strange things to spend time doing ;) Oh, and check out yours truly getting her bread making on because #QuarantineQueen
With love, some totally rad interpretive dance moves and a kitchen now covered in flour,
- Paige J.
